New caps are coming, new caps are coming…

What happens when the lead time between ordering metal caps and receiving metal caps changes from 2 weeks to 6 months, without any notice? After uttering several choice expletives, realizing that mustard production stops without a supply of caps, and regaining some semblance of composure, we decided to make the switch to a plastic cap. So goes business life in the time of a pandemic.

For almost 44 years, Mendocino Mustard has been produced in a glass jar with a metal cap, both excellent choices for the environment. Too many consumer products companies put most of their effort and energy into their product and its marketing and then decide to package their product in a non-recyclable, non-reusable package. Because of our commitment to the environment, we believe that we have found the next best alternative to the metal cap – the polypropylene cap.

The caps we are currently sourcing are recyclable, BPA-Free, made in the USA, and meet California’s Prop 65 Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act.

We have already begun using the new caps at home and have been pleasantly surprised. We hope that you will like them too!
